SOUTH AMERICA

From the sizzling atmosphere of Brazil to the haunting frigid allure of Antarctica, South America offers a wealth of natural wonders across some of the most diverse cruising grounds in the world.

The Pacific coast of South America is where the Mountains meet the surf, boasting astonishing beauty and extreme contrasts, Torres del Paine of Patagonia along the border of Chile and Argentina is an Alpine-like wonderland of towering glacier-draped pinnacles begging to be explored by horseback or four-wheeling. And if you choose to cruise the 4,000 miles of the Chilean coastline, be sure to visit Robinson Crusoe Island with its lush jungles and exotic flora and fauna. In contrast, a visit to Laguna San Rafael will allow you to see lamas and alpacas in their natural habitat against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, fjords and glaciers.

Offshore to the West are the Easter Islands, best known for its 600 Moai stone figures sculpted from volcanic rock, gazing out to sea. You will revel in the mystery of one the most isolated locations on earth.

Brazil dominates the Atlantic coast, which is certain to leave you in awe as you gaze upon the magnificence of Christ the Redeemer monument, Sugarloaf Mountain and Iguazu Falls. Exploring the convoluted eastern coastline between Rio de Janiro and Sao Paulo is a must.

South of Brazil, is Uruguay, which has been called the Switzerland of South America, not because of Alpine scenery but because of the huge immigration of Swiss starting in the mid 1800’s. In fact, one town is named Nueva Helvecia “New Switzerland”. And the capital city of Montevideo is the southernmost capital in South America.

From swimming with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands to cruising down the majestic Amazon River, South America has something to suit every charter traveler.
